Conservation of Stainless Steel:
Type of Contamination | Cleaning Agents |
Cement and mortar | Solution containing nitric acid, e.g. PROSOLV 541, PROSOLV 544 , followed by water (preferably demineralized) |
Fingerprints | PROSOLV HP diluted to 5-10% water with soap or glass cleaners free of chlorides |
Lime scale | PROCIV 300 lub PROCIV 600 |
Oils and greases | Aerosol ARDROX 9PR2 alcohol-based agents (including methylated spirit and isopropyl alcohol) pure acetone |
Paints | PROPEINT 175 paint removers based on alkaline compounds or solvents |
Iron particles from tools or contact with carbon steel | Early stage – mechanically, then wash with PROSOLV (passivation and decontamination). If pitting appears – use pickling preparations TURBO Z or PROCAP PRO, PROCAP AV, then passivation – wash with PROCIV 300 and rinse thoroughly. |
Yellow or rusty deposits | Wash thoroughly with PROSOLV (15-30 min), then rinse with water (preferably demineralized) |
WARNING!!! Do NOT use products for removing mortars or dilute hydrochloric acid, bleaches, silver cleaners on stainless steel!
Cleaning tools: Cloth, acid-resistant brushes, chamois leather, nylon sponge
WARNING!!! Do NOT use wire brushes made of carbon steel, steel wool, or steel scouring pads!
To protect sheet surfaces against contamination during transport and production processes, they can be covered with a protective film:
